Suspension & Steering
If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
The vehicles being recalled are equipped with an electric power steering (EPS) assist system. The EPS can fail unexpectedly while driving. If this were to occur, steering ability would be maintained but much greater effort would be necessary to steer the vehicle, especially at slow speeds. One of four remedies will be applied depending on the model and year. Parts are not yet available so expect a second notification when they are.
General Motors will notify the owners of the affected vehicles beginning April 28, 2014. If you don't receive notification and believe you should have, please contact your GM dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The General Motors recall number is 140115.
