If the wires become lodged in the seat riser mechanism, they may become severed and potentially short circuit. A short circuit may result in a fire.
Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans are used by the Explorer Van Company as the base vehicle for some of their van conversions. Certain Explorer vans are being recalled because the wiring under the power seats may not have been properly secured during vehicle conversion. The wires can be damaged by the seat mechanism resulting in an electrical short and possibly a fire. Dealers will inspect and replace any seat wire harness found to be damaged. If the harness is not damaged, it will be secured to prevent future damage.
The Explorer Van Company will begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles on May, 17, 2013. If you notice any problems and/or burning smell related to your power seats, contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Explorer Van Company recall number is 2013-1.
