Engine
UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, THERE MAY BE ENGINE HESITATION AND POSSIBLE ENGINE STALL EVEN THOUGH THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATES UP TO 1/4 OF THE FUEL IS LEFT IN THE TANK. THIS CONDITION INCREASES THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
The software controlling the fuel pump may not be compatible with all fuel pumps and components, resulting in insufficient fuel transfer in the pump unit. Under certain driving conditions, if the fuel level goes below the 1/4 mark, the engine may hesitate or stall. This condition increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will upgrade the engine control module software to correct this concern. This recall is expected to begin on June 17, 2011. The Volvo recall number is R243.
This should be considered a medium priority recall; this would change to high if the vehicle is operated with the fuel level below 1/4 as the engine could stall without warning. Please contact your Volvo dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
