Brakes
IF THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER IS IN THE PARK POSITION, THERE WILL BE NO UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. HOWEVER, IF THE KEYS ARE LEFT IN THE IGNITION, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER IS IN ANY POSITION OTHER THAN PARK, AND THE VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A SUFFICIENT SLOPE, IT COULD RESULT IN UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
The parking brake cable connector was not manufactured within specification of the Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. This could cause the cable connector to fracture without warning, causing the parking brake cable to disengage. If the transmission shift lever is placed in the "Park" position, the vehicle will remain in place. Under special conditions where the vehicle is not placed in "Park" on a slope, the keys are left in, and the parking brake disengages, a crash could result without warning. Dealers will replace the parking brake cable link free of charge. The recall began May 5, 2009. The GM recall number is 09045.
We at RepairPal have designated this a medium priority recall; this would change to high if the parking brake does not hold. Please contact your Chevrolet dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
