IF LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID CONTACTS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, IT MAY POSE A RISK OF FIRE.
A bolt securing the transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission may not have been sufficiently torqued during assembly. If the oil cooler lines separate from the transmission and transmission fluid contacts the catalytic converter, a fire could start. Dealers will inspect and tighten the transmission cooler line attachment. The recall began August 30, 2007. The Ford recall number is 07S56.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the transmission oil cooler lines may separate without warning. Please contact your Mercury dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
