AS A RESULT, WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED THE DOOR LATCH PAWL MAY REMAIN IN THE OPEN POSITION RESULTING IN THE DOOR NOT BEING ABLE TO BE CLOSED AND LATCHED. IF THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED WITH AN OPEN DOOR IT MAY ALLOW AN UNBELTED OCCUPANT TO BE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH.
The sliding door latch mechanisms may experience water intrusion, allowing the latch mechanism to freeze in cold weather. At this time, only vehicles in cold weather states are being recalled for this issue. When the door is opened, the latch pawl may remain in the open position and not latch properly when closed. Since the door may open unexpectedly while driving, an unbelted occupant could be ejected from the vehicle. Dealers will replace the sliding door latches to correct this concern. The Mazda recall number is 4306K.
Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning December 18, 2006. If you are experiencing problems with a side door latch, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
