IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT SHIFT TO PARK BEFORE REMOVING THE KEY AND FAILS TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR.
The shifter interlock to key lock cable may be improperly manufactured. This may allow the key to come out with the vehicle not in park. This could allow the vehicle to roll out of control. Dealers will inspect the cable and replace it if necessary. The Mitsubishi recall number is SR-06-005. This recall began on November 20, 2006.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; if the vehicle is not in park when the key is removed, the vehicle may roll out of control without warning. Please contact your Mitsubishi dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
