AFTER A PERIOD OF CONTINUOUS USE ON THE HIGH SPEED SETTING, LACK OF GREASE ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR MAY CAUSE THE GEAR TEETH TO DISTORT OR FRACTURE DURING OPERATION RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF WIPER FUNCTION. INOPERATIVE WIPERS UNDER INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS COULD CAUSE A CRASH DUE TO IMPAIRED VISIBILITY.
The windshield wiper may have been produced without grease applied to the output shaft gear. After a period of continuous use on the high speed setting, this lack of grease could cause the gear teeth to distort or fracture, resulting in the loss of wiper function. An inoperative wiper during inclement weather conditions could cause a crash due to impaired visibility. Dealers will inspect the wiper motor for the presence of grease. Grease will be applied to the wiper motor gears if necessary. The Mazda recall number is 3705K.
Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning November 28, 2005. If you are experiencing problems with the windshield system, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
