THIS CAN PREVENT THE CABLE AUTO-SET FROM CORRECTLY ADJUSTING THE CABLE. AN INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED CABLE PREVENTS THE SHIFTER FROM LOCKING IN THE 'PARK' POSITION WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE KEY CYLINDER.
The transmission shift lever cable may not be seated properly on the shift mechanism. This can result in the vehicle being not being secure in the park position. Dealers will inspect for the concern and repair vehicles that exhibit the condition free of charge.
General Motors notified owners of affected vehicles starting in August 2004. You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them. The General Motors recall number is 04044.
