Body, Interior & Misc.
ANYONE SITTING OR STANDING ON THE HORIZONTAL SURFACE OF THE TAILGATE WHEN BOTH CABLES FRACTURED COULD BE INJURED BY FALLING FROM THE TAILGATE. ON VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD THE BUMPER REMOVED, THE TAILGATE MAY DROP EVEN LOWER. ADDITIONALLY, IF THERE IS CARGO ON THE TAILGATE THE CARGO MAY FALL OFF IF THE SUPPORT CABLES FRACTURE.
The tailgate of affected vehicles may drop without warning due to the support cables that retain the tailgate in the full open horizontal position corroding and fracturing. This could injure someone who is sitting or standing on the tailgate when the cables fractured, could allow cargo to fall off if the tailgate drops and increases the risk of injury.
You must visit a General Motors dealership to perform recall repairs on your Chevrolet, GMC Cadillac truck. The schedule for General Motors to initially contact known owners of affected vehicles begins during September, 2004. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local General Motors dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The General Motors recall designation is 04007.
