THE LOW ELECTROLYTE LEVELS RESULT IN ACCELERATED BATTERY GRID GROWTH, INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR INTER-CELL RUPTURE AND SPARKING, AND THE POTENTIAL FOR A BATTERY EXPLOSION.
For vehicles equipped with Hoppecke batteries, the batteries require regular maintenance and checking of fluid levels, but this was not communicated when the vehicles were built. This can lead to battery failure and a potential for internal battery damage causing the risk of an explosion.
You must contact and visit a Mercedes-Benz dealership to perform recall repairs on your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The notification of known owners of affected vehicles began during February, 2002. If you wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mercedes-Benz dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
