THE SOFT JOINT COULD CAUSE THE REAR AXLE U-BOLTS TO LOSE CLAMP LOAD, RESULTING IN DISPLACEMENT OF THE REAR AXLE AND A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
For vehicles equipped with a camper package and overload spring, there may be a deformation of the upper spring plate during assembly of the axle, resulting in a soft joking. This can allow the rear axle u-bolts to lose clamp load, resulting in the displacement of the rear axle and loose of vehicle control.
You must visit a Ram dealership to perform recall repairs on your Ram truck. The schedule for Chrysler to contact known owners of affected vehicles was during February, 2001. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ram truck dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is 966.
