It's impossible to guess as it could be one of many parts in the steering or suspension.It does sound like it potentially could be very dangerous so it does need to be taken care of immediately especially if the noise is associated with tire wear.

It sounds like your wheel hub. It is easy to remove,replace and should take about 1.5 hours to do the job. Good luck.
