What is your question?
I have a 1997 Toyota Paseo with the 5efe, this model year has the stricter emissions standards and OBD2, i have 386k miles on it and finally need to replace the engine as it has started knocking... I am having a really hard time finding a 97-99 model year engine! I was wondering if i MUST use a 97-99 engine or if an engine block from the 92-96 model (before obd2) would work if i took all of the other parts off my old engine... OR would a 92-99 imported JDM engine work? (I am unsure if JDM motors have the same wiring or emissions stuff) It doesn't need to pass emissions, they don't do emissions where i live, but i don't want it to run like crap because it isn't meant to be in the car.

Hello, you need to replace your engine block and likely cylinder head with the one that matches the year requirement. The older one will not function as needed. I'm not sure about JDM, you'd have to direct fitment questions to them.
