When key isn’t working the unlock button on drivers side will not unlock passenger door and trunk release on dash does not work either. The vehicle will start with key and this reactivates the use of the trunk release and door lock inside the vehicle. Key remote was not remedied by changing battery in key. Ordered a new key and tried to program it but it would not program the ignition. Kept throwing error code. Do I have a bigger issue than the remote? Where do I go from here?

I don't see any reason why the factory key would suddenly stop working, unless the battery went dead as you said -- perhaps take the original fob to a dealership to have them check and change the battery? If you provide a new fob, you'll have to program it to work with the vehicle's anti-theft system, besides the rest. Better to fix the old fob if possible, but if not -- all keys must be present before programming. Sounds like maybe you only had one. I still have no idea why the key would just stop working, other than battery failure. www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
