What is causing the screeching and burning smell in my Suzuki?

Hello, The most likely cause of this screeching noise along with the burning rubber smell is that your drive belt for some reason is slipping on the accessory drive pulleys of the engine. These are the pulleys that drive your water pump, alternator, air conditioning compressor, and any other accessories bolted onto the front of the engine that need to be turned by belt. If the belt screeches, either it's dry rotten to the point of not having enough grip (unusual), there is not enough tension on the belt (due to a pulley not pulling tight enough), or one of the pulleys the belt is driving is seizing or is too tight to turn freely. Have a look at the belt and the pulleys; a technician would remove the belt and spin all the pulleys by hand to see which may be binding. With the vehicle running, you may also get to see which pulley isn't turning if the screeching happens. Good luck!
