trouble accelerating going up hill or even on a flat ground.

(v6 engine.) I just moved to Colorado from Nevada, my car has been having a big problem accelerating when i try to drive it at 50mph or higher. It'll lag at 45mph for a few minutes, but then eventually it WILL speed up. Also if I'm going up hill or I think at any time the car is being driven (with the windows down) I smell ammonia. I've never had this problem before in Nevada (the only other place it's been driven in.
