What is your question?
I have a 2001 Vitara, 1.6L, auto trans 44,000 mi. Driven on St Thomas a very hilly island. Lot's of downshifting coming down the hills and revving going up. Check engine light has been on since I bought the car with 11,000 miles. Diagnostic compouter says check oxygen sensor. I pulled both of them out three years ago and inspected they look very clean. Idle started getting rough about a year ago. I've run SeaFoam through the intake twice, no improvement. Changed plugs, coils & wires. Sometimes idle will be around 750 rpm and sometimes 500 mostly 500. Any ideas? Thank You much.

Cool, you're on St. thomas! I have a place on Roatan! Also very hilly and lots of people have car problems. I'm very popular when I'm there... OK, first, an oxygen sensor inspection means check the signal coming from it using a high-impedance meter or better a scanner which displays data. Bad O2 sensors will probably cause your computer to run the engine in "Warm-Up Mode" or a default setting because there's no O2 signal. this will foul plugs, cause high fuel consumption and make the engine run bad and wear out quickly. A faulty thermostat can cause about the same effect on your engine. On Roatan and on mainland Honduras I've noticed that people take a hammer to an O2 sensor and take out the thermostat, they think they're onto something because when in Warm-Up mode the engine feels responsive at low speeds but really isn't running well. If your idle is erratic, try removing the Idle Air Control (IAC - I think on the throttle body) if possible and clean out its ports and passages in the manifold. Running with bad O2 sensors and/or a bad or missing thermostat can cause carbpn buildup in the IAC system.
Thanks for the reply. So I removed the IAC and didn't find what I would call carbon build up but did clean off what was there on the valve & seat and sprayed Sea Foam through the ports. Didn't make any difference. At first it seamed like there was an improvement but when the idle drops to 500 the engine really shudders. What do you think about the EGR valve?
did you ever find the reason of the low idle? i have an issue like that on my vitara 2001 g16b engine 16 valves, and cleaned everything but still runs low idle on warm engine starts, help pleasee
