What is your question?
Makes noise when starting, but not the same noise when cranking engine. More of a ??high pitched whining as compared to the sound when cranking. When key is turned on, but not all the way to start, there is a noise. Trying to think of how to describe it. Kind of like a pinging or clicking of something winding down. This is without turning key completely to the start position. Battery is about 3 months old & is good with power to what ever makes noise when trying to start.
What makes this problem better or worse?
It just won’t start, have not found anything that helps or worsens.
How long has your 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara had this problem?
Since this (Monday, Dec 24th) morning.

Hello, this honestly sounds like bad news -- a faster crank as it seems you are describing sounds like a crank without engine compression, such as when the cylinders are flooded with excess fuel, or when the timing chain has separated. This is too hard to tell without hands on diagnostic testing being performed. The starter motor could also have an internal problem preventing engine cranking, for example.
