Why does my car not move when i put it in gear it makes like a spinning sound ?

It first started when I'd reach about 50 then I'd push the clutch and it stop and I'd gear down and it be ok but after awhile it would happen sooner and now it's to where I put it in first gear it'll catch for a second or two then it'll make a sound like something is spinning and the car won't move.
What makes this problem better or worse?
I don't try and move it.
How long has your 1994 Subaru Justy had this problem?
