Should I buy a new passenger mirror?

Hi i hit s trash can and the glass from the passenger side popped out i tried to put it on and when i closed the door it fell out. I bought a replacement glass but im scared i might break it. It's fine when drive but when close the door it falls. Do i need to buy a new passenger side mirror is their another way? My car is a 2007 pontiac grand prix.
