What is your question?
I had been driving the car for about two hours on 10/17/2017. On my way back home and turning onto my street, I start hearing this loud ticking or tapping sound. I parked the car, listen to see where it was coming from. I noticed a faint smell of rubber burning or a wire...not sure. I quickly turned the engine off got out of the car. The sound was coming from under the hood. The car has very low mileage (36,417). In July 2017, oil change, fluids checked and purchased 4 new tires, brakes are good, no squeaking, rubbing, no check engine or service messages etc., did not appear. Thanks for the help!
What makes this problem better or worse?
I am not sure how to answer, other than to say it's just started. If I turn the ignition, it starts ticking in a few minutes, when I turn it off, it will continue to make that sound and stops after a few minutes. Now, I know the sound of the engine when it off and cooling down...this sound is a lot different. I have never hear this before. So far it up-to-date with fluid checks include a new oil change in
How long has your 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix had this problem?
The ticking problem started on October 17, 2017. I had written a longer explanation, but I accidently hit the wrong key in it disappeared! Lol So I will try it again, the car has very low milage (36,417).

Hello, I almost want to say that the tapping could be something contacting the cooling fan, which would also explain the burning smell. However, tapping is normally from something like a lifter that needs adjustment. Which engine do you have, and have you noticed if the noise changes when you raise the engine speed, vehicle speed, or comes and goes?
Hi, Casey 40510! Thanks for your quick reply! I haven't noticed the noise change, the tapping is still there, your answer was on time, I was told the same thing in detail. It was suggested that I replace the battery, get a new oil change ( there is a possibility when I had the oil changed in July, the wrong type was used). If the tapping stops after the latter and then the problem may be solved. If not the lifter needs adjustment, cleaning, perhaps replaced. I will know more this weekend! Will give you an update!!
