This doesn't happen all the time but is getting more frequent.

The "W" body had numerous issues with the ignition switch with thermal failures. 1 of the biggest problems was not being able to get key out of ignition or not being able to pull it out of park. Get your wiring diagram and trace out which ckt it actually is or just replace the ignition switch.
