cuts off when gas pedal is pressed

Sounds to me like its your Air flow sensor or your fuel line has trash in it.

Check with the car not running to see if fuel is getting to the fuel rail, just push in the stem (much like a intertube stem. If you have gas there then rule out the fuel pump. I had this problem once with a Grand prix I worked on and it turned out to be the catalytic convertor
