My crankshaft was turned while the cam sprockets were not installed so I'm trying to time the cams without the sprocket marks. I can get the crankshaft to tdc but without the sprockets I'm not certain how to time them

Hi this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team. That's definitely something you don't want to risk putting back together without confirming the timing is spot-on. You'll need to install the camshaft sprockets and rotate them to the proper positions (intake at 2 o'clock & exhaust at 10 o'clock) Then the crank sprocket (timing mark at the 5 o'clock position) You can use the colored links on the timing chain to confirm they're properly with the slack of the chain on the side of the guide with the tensioner.
