almost constant clicking of turn signal

What is your question?

My turn signals work as well as my emergency flashers on the inside and outside but it makes a clicking sound almost constantly. It will quit for a while then pick back up again. It's been doing this for quite some time and I've learned to live with the noise but I'm finally to the point that I can't stand it anymore not to mention that it drives any passengers in my car nuts once they can stop laughing. I have a friend with a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and hers does the same thing although it's not as bad as mine.
