serpintine belt

get some belt lube at an auto parts store. I have a 99 grand prix that runs cool until it ideles for a long period of time. depends on what type thermostat it has.

belts tend to shrink when hot so the tension becomes greater and the noise stops. the tensioner sounds like it has failed. common proble, replace the belt and tensioner for that. the thermostat may need to be replaced. it is tough on the 3.1 as it is under the exhaust crossover pipe on the frivers sdie at the end of the upper hose.
