MY CAR HAS LEAKED COOLENT FOR THE 12 YEARS I HAVE HAD IT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. I NEED MY 6TH FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE GASKET BELOW THERE BECAUSE OF EASY ACCESS TO IT. DO I NEED THIS TO BE DONE?

The technician will not be that much closer to the lower intake gasket when changing the fuel injector on your 1998 Pontiac Grand Am so not much time will be saved. That being said, it is always a good idea to take care of any coolant leaks before they get worse. You say yous has been leaking for a long time but who is to say when it will finally let go.
take upper intake off then you can change injector
