My niece just got this car and has no owners manual. There is a button by her right thumb on the console shifter. I don't know what it is. What is it and what does it do?

It is the "Enhanced Traction System (ETS)" switch. If you would like an Owners Manual you can download one free at: http://www.autousermanual.com/view/pontiac/grand-am/

The button on the automatic shifter is for the enhanced traction system(ETS). There is a light that will glow in the lower left side of the instrument panel and it says ETS off and when the light is not glowing then your ETS iis activated. The ETS system is used in bad weather like, rain, snow, and mud. Hope this helps.
