When driving the car does good until I reach 55 mph, then it starts to hesitate. If I push on the accelerator it will stop and the car speeds up, but at anytime I am around 55 or even 65 mph it will hesitate until I push down on the gas pedal and get past that point.

I have a 96 Grand Am also, 3.4 I believe. I came to the site as mine has very low miles, but definitely a few quirks-This being one of them. I am always b/w 50-55 mph and shutters/hesitates due to load or attempted acceleration. I always back of first and attempt a much slower acceleration. Would like to know what you have been told?
