2003 Pontiac bonneville wont go in drive have to put in 1st then do on manually

Shifts fine manually but wont downshift.when put in reverse is fine .put in drive the car doesn't move rpms get really low them rpms increase real high in drive and 3rd. When put in 2nd or first works f ine .have to let of accelerator slightly cause car rev after manu as lily shifting. Car is leaking transmission fluid from cooling area

What makes this problem better or worse?

It's better condition when cold
