Hello, Backfiring through the intake is a sign of burnt engine cylinder head valves or damaged valve seats. Of course, the camshaft timing could be incorrect, and this should be verified first of all. Scan the vehicle for trouble codes as well, and consider testing the camshaft position sensor. If the camshaft position sensor is incorrect, it will tell the coils to fire at the wrong time. Issues like this (driveability issues) must be tested for a diagnosis to prevent throwing parts at the car until it works. To test for valve seat damage or burnt valves, a leakdown test is the best method.
