What is your question?
My security light stays on solid always but car starts and runs ok. But I would like to know what causes light to stay on on this 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hi! this is Bo with Car Genius at RepairPal! Those pesky security lights! It could be something to do with you ignition lock cylinder or the theft deterrent module itself. It seems unlikely given that the Cutlass starts and runs without stalling. You could try the relearn procedure as seen below to try and reset the light. It will require a scan tool though. 1. Verify that the battery is fully charged. 2. Use the scan tool to clear any DTC’s. 3. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position, allowing the engine to start/stall. 4. Release the key, leave the ignition in the ON position for a minimum of 10 minutes. Do not continue until at least 10 minutes has passed or the relearn will abort. Going over 10 minutes is OK. 5. After the 10 minute cycle, turn the key off for 15 seconds. 6. Repeat steps 3-5 two more times (3 times total). 7. After the 3rd cycle, the theft system should synchronize, the engine should start normally. If you have any other questions feel free to give us a call at 877-913-1554!
