have a 1994 Olds cutlass Surpeme S 3.1 and RPMs are dropping @ stop lights & stop signs. everything electrical was checked, tried a new IAC and sensor, nothing. Even tried 2 bottles of GUMOUT FUEL INJECTION/CARBARTION CLEANER and1 a bottle of STP STRONG FUEL INJECTION/CARB CLEANER.It seems to work somewhat, the needle now goes up/down and sometimes I can go a day without it cutting off, but the next day it does it again, in fact, today it's starting to buck when I 'am @ speeds50 mph something it has never done. Was told by Firestone have to take it to the dealer to check for electrical issues, when was already checked & they are saying it's a computer issue .H E L P

Hello, first - Firestone is not equipped to diagnose this concern, unless you run into that one technician somewhere that knows how to properly diagnose an OBD-I vehicle like yours. Second - you do not have a "computer issue". Engine performance with bucking and surging as well as idle roughness and low idle at a stop is indicative of an engine performance issue, with either ignition spark, fuel delivery, air intake or emissions controls issues -- or some combination of any of those. It's also possible you have an engine timing or compression issue. Your vehicle is 27 years old. It's not unexpected to have problems develop over time, wear and tear. No need to jump to the "computer" solution. I'd lean towards EGR issues to start with -- clogged passages and an EGR valve that sticks. But there's testing required there. Beyond that, there is likely an ignition related concern, such as spark plug wires that are arcing under load. It's all guessing! Because I don't have the car here to look at and evaluate. A good shop near you can help you. It's worth the money to get a professional assessment. Here are some shops near you to consult - fill out this page: www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
Thanks for your answer and for saying that I don't have a computer issue & I'm finding that most shops DON'T even have an OB1 SCANNER & that's something that I didn't knew that Firestone even has, but I'm willing to bet that PRECISION TUNE would have them. They saved me a lot of money 3 years ago telling me that I DIDN'T NEEDED another COMPUTER. I have replaced the fuel filter last month, done plugs, wires about 4-5 months ago, from Firestone and had an EGR VALVED installed 4-5 yrs ago.so you are saying that I should have it taken to a shop that has an OB1 SCANNER, like PRECISION TUNE ?
what is the cost in having my car scanned, using an OB1 SCANNER? Thanks
