The car will take itself up to 35 without me touching the accelerator. I can rejigger the idle setting by switching from drive to neutral while stopped waiting a few seconds, hearing the engine slow down, and shifting back to drive, it seems to get a new reading, sometimes the same, sometimes slower, sometimes so slow the car clunks out if I am not revving it manually. I had the computer and the MAF computer replaced by technicians and they gave it back to me saying they have no idea what the problem is. Any ideas?

First, if the computer and MAF were replaced with no results, then they owe you a proper repair unless you signed for the replacement of those parts, shooting in the dark, so to speak. If they guaranteed their estimate and work, you shouldn't have had to pay for that. if you deal with a fly-by-night shop, then it's on you. A good technician would have fixed your car or not charged for the repair. Enough lecture.. I'm suspicious of the throttle position sensor and I have another couple of vague ideas, I'd have to diagnose the car to see what's wrong. Find a GM specialist to help you. Thankfully they were a real shop (actually they are on the list you linked to) and returned it at no cost after giving up. I think I just need to find older technicians, someone who actually worked on cars that vintage. once the problem isn't a broken computer they seem to get lost. I will try taking it to another one on that list.
