check engine light came on for a MAF sensor but i already changed it and the RPMs are going to 2000 and back down while in park

Any information you get is data that helps diagnose a concern. The MAF (mass air flow) sensor was probably just fine. But other information that intersects with that sensor are likely in question, which means that it's essential to have more understanding as to what's going on with the vehicle, when the problem started and as many details you can share as possible. The symptom you are sharing is likely related to an air intake leak - air getting in that isn't controlled.
