First, it sounds like you have two separate problems. The grinding appears to indicate that something was done wrong when the new brake pads were installed. You need to pull the front wheels and take a good like at the position of the calipers, the proper seating of the pads, and the condition of the rotors. The tire wearing on the outside indicates that your camber is way out of adjustment. (You need an alignment.) One other possibility, which could account for both of your symptoms: If whoever did your brake pad replacement had the wheel bearings out, it's possible that they simply did not properly retighten the bearings when putting it back together. The wheel bearings could then be the source of the noise, and the bearings being loose could also allow the wheel to lean and ride at an angle, wearing one side of the tire.
