The dashboard instrumentation doesn't work.

P0500 would affect your speedometer primarily, as well as shifting of the transmission (if automatic) and some other components. Because of your other issues I almost suspect a wiring issue related to that speed sensor and possibly related areas...such as a common ground failure.
