code at parts store said 1st cylinder not firing.

Most likely the ignition coil is dead. It could also be a worn spark plug, clogged fuel injector or no compression in the cylinder.
Switch coil from adjacent cylinder & see if the problem follows the coil. If the problem follow the coil you have a bad coil.
