What is your question?
My friend was trying to light his cigarette and held the lighter down too long, a quick pop happened then the radio, interior lights, and cigar lighter stopped working all at once. I checked the fuses but they were all still good. What’s the issues and how would I go about fixing it?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Nothing happened even when I replaced the fuses.
How long has your 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis had this problem?
Couple days

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. For your Grand Marquis, it sounds like the issue is related to an electrical short caused by the lighter being held too long. Even if the fuses appear fine, there could be a blown fuse that's not immediately obvious or a wiring issue. Check the interior and exterior fuse boxes for any fuses that control the radio, interior lights, and cigarette lighter; they could be linked. If the fuses are intact, inspect the wiring behind the lighter and in the areas related to the components that stopped working. A loose connection or damaged wire could be the culprit. It might also help to have a multimeter to check for continuity in the affected circuits.
