why wont my gas pedal rev the engine or get gas to the engine?

my car died and i called AAA to tow me. he diagnosed the alternator as bad. i replaced the alternator and the car then would not start. it would crank but not turn over. my gas pedal will not get gas to engine. i replaced the fuel filter and confirmed the fuel pump is working. still my accelorator wont give gas to engine therefore it will not stay running.
