Speedometer works intermittently

Tapping on it and making it work concerns me -- because it means that it could be a speedometer issue itself. The vehicle speed sensor provides speed information to the speedometer, but should be unaffected by "tapping" on the speedometer. Seek hands on guidance at a shop near you.
