The odometer went out about two years ago. About six months ago I noticed the trip indicator stopped working, and a few days ago the speedometer stopped. Any idea what would cause this?

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO HAVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PULLED OUT AND REPAIRED. IT HAS DIFFERENT MOTORS INSIDE IT FOR THESE AREAS AND THEY PROBABLY NEED REPAIRING OR REPLACING.
The odometer/trip odometer are controlled by small electric motors. VERY frequently, the plastic gears that drive the odometers fail, and the motor may still be functional. The gears are obsolete from Ford, but may still be found here and there. They are not cheap, I've seen them go for $40.00 each.A used cluster may still have servicable gears in it as well, but don't count on it. The speedometer may be stuck, try tapping on the dash lightly, and see if it starts to work. There were some problems with this back then, and it involved modifying the speedometer head. the Vehicle Speed Sensor, or it's gear, may have also failed.
