Issue with ignition. Key wont turn sometimes and sometimes it just wont start

Everyday i have issues either starting the car or turning the key. Sometimes i unlock the car and put the key in the ignition and it wont turn or just takes a while before it can and then sometimes it will turn but does not start up. What could be the problem?
