Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your S500. That loud noise and metal shavings are classic signs of a bearing going bad, and it seems like it finally seized up. When the pulley stops spinning, the whole compressor shuts down, leaving you with no A/C and possibly even some belt-related issues. You'll want to get that compressor checked out ASAP—continuing to drive it could lead to a snapped belt, and that's a whole other can of worms. More often than not, the entire compressor might need to be replaced. It's a good idea to have a pro take a look and save your S500 from any more drama. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered.
