gas door compartment cant open, even when the car is unlock, what is going on?

my key fob doesnt work and my gas door compartment is lock, even when the car is running or not, or unlocked. I cant open the gas door, is there any other way to open gas door. By going through the trunk area, would I be able to unlock the gas door? These cars are starting to be a pain in the backside!
