power lift gate opens but is very erratic in closing

This may too late for when the original question was asked- but here goes. My tailgate always required a gentle push at the final stage of closing, until a month ago when it stopped latching all together. The actuator contained two electric motors which work to pull the tailgate closed once it latches. The hardest part of the replacement is removing the door lining to get at the actuator. The second hardest task is to replace said lining with the aid of new clips as the original clips shattered when removed. The actuator is secured by three torx bolts , has an electrical lead connecting it and an emergency release cable to reconnect. The actuator part number is A 164 740 06 35. Hope this helps.
