What is your question?
I'm planning to replace both engine mounts on my 2004 ML500 with a 5.0 engine. The mounts are designed with a higher and lower side. "FRONT" is stamped on both of the new mounts. On one it's stamped on the higher side, on the other it's stamped on the lower side. Which side is supposed to face towards the FRONT of the vehicle? FYI: I purchased the mounts from a local MB dealer. DIY youtube videos mention that the lower side faces the front. And, I can of course install the new mounts the same as the originals. But now I'm paranoid! With my luck the original ones may have been installed incorrectly. Your answers are very much appreciated.

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! That's a good question about those mounts. If "FRONT" is stamped on both, you’re on the right track—Mercedes is usually pretty clear on which side should face forward. The general rule is that the lower side of the engine mount typically faces forward. The logic here is that it supports the engine as it tilts backward slightly under load. If you’re still unsure, double-check with the MB dealer or compare with the originals (if they seem to have worked fine). But don’t overthink it—those markings are there to make sure you're good!
