I replaced one of the rear air bags and the compressor and had the suspension calibrated. now one of the front air bags is blown out. is it common to have to replace all of the air bags ?

It is not uncommon to have to replace air suspension related parts on these vehicles. There are aftermarket solutions, but it appears the factory stuff is still the best despite shorter than expected service life.
The air suspension starts to have problems at about the 50k mark. It’s not hard to replace the parts, just time consuming. Rear is easier than front. DIY costs $1500ish if you also have to replace compressor. This is using Arnott parts. Otherwise, MB will charge north of $4k.
