The fuel gauge on my 1992 Mercedes 400E is always set in the middle (half tank full) when I turn the ignition key, it doesn't matter if the tank is full or empty, when the ignition is off it goes back to R (empty). How would I do to check the Fuel Level sensor and replace it if that is the problem?. Thanks

the sender is accessed thru the trunk; removing the rear liner, the sender is located on the top of the tank. with the float down, the resistance across terminal G and 31 should be about 80 ohms. with the float up, it should read about 2 ohms. the sensor lists for $254 for the part. if you are uncomfortable around open gasoline and/or do not have a good digital meter, do not attempt this repair.
